SUMMARY:SCHS Holiday Party
DESCRIPTION:Once again we will be holding our Holiday Party at the SuperMex Restaurant in Fullerton. Every year the consensus is this is some of the best Mexican food anywhere. So come hungry and happy! Have a few drinks from the cantina – we hear there margaritas are also some of the best around and get ready for a very pleasant and relaxing way to wind down after the hectic holidays. As usual we will have our own banquet room where we can get our hibiscus thing on and go full throttle. And to top it all off an end of the year hibiscus plant auction! Are you kidding – in December when there is no where left to buy hibiscus plants? Too good to be true! Fantastic food and drinks with a great group of people as always. And don’t forget to bring your blooms – we always have an amazing bloom display that covers a couple tables at least. What a perfect way to finish off the year on a high note surrounded by yummy things to eat and beautiful blooms Always a great time and always great people. Sometimes the best gifts of the holidays don’t always come from under the tree! \n \n \n \n \n \n  \n

SUMMARY:SCHS September Meeting
DESCRIPTION:We are in for a treat for our September meeting as for the first time we will be holding a meeting at the home of Alex & Angela Franco of the well known and respected AJ Horticulture Company. Their home is beautifully landscaped with a vast array of tropical plants and trees that will transport your senses to an exotic far away destination. Alex is a knowledge powerhouse expert on all things plant related so a wonderful place to see and learn about anything horticultural from the best. Their very impressive\, large Japanese Koi pond and running stream will keep you entertained the entire time there. Not only will his impressive landscaping delight you but he also has a lot of very interesting rooting action going on in his greenhouse so an excellent opportunity to see how it is done and what it takes. For those of you who are interested in rooting plants and expand your plant skill set this is a meeting not to miss. Alex has added dozens of exotic hibiscus plants to his landscaping so a great chance to see how younger plants thrive when in proper growing conditions and the different approaches that can be applied to successfully grow them outdoors. \nAlso we will be having Alex’s favorite taco bar so get ready for hand made tortillas stuffed full of delicious chicken\, carne asada or pork pastor. Fill up with super tasty south of the border food while eating in this tropical oasis. Plus another awesome plant auction to follow the meeting. SUMMARY:1st Annual SCHS Grafting Party
DESCRIPTION:  \nIt is with much excitement that we are announcing our first ever Grafting Party. We have been hard at work rooting a lot of Albo Plants so that we can finally get our dues paying members their free hard to get grafted plants. We thought this would be a good opportunity to hold a self guided workshop on grafting so that we can all learn together as well as create our first round of grafted society member plants.\n  \nThe featured plant to be grafted will be Cindy’s Heart which has been highly requested. For the few that do have it other very desirable cuttings will be offered day of.\n  \nIf you are going to attend you will need to bring your own sharp knife – preferrably a grafting or exacto knife. We will provide wax and tape. DESCRIPTION:  \nOur June meeting will be at the Armstrong Garden Nursery in Torrance where there will be a class on plumeria care. Plumeria are one of the best complimentary plants for hibiscus so a great opportunity to gain some helpful insight in how to best grow them as well as purchase some while there. Class starts at 9am and will last for one hour. Our meeting will be in the same spot at 10am for an additional hour. Afterwards we will have an hour or so to shop the wonderful selection of plants there. \nDirectly south of Armstrong are numerous restaurants for those that would like to have lunch together and spend time talking hibiscus.

DESCRIPTION:We have a stellar location for our next meeting at the historic Robinson Family Mansion of Beverly Hills (Robinson’s Department Stores ring a bell?). We are the only group that day to have a docent led tour of the entire mansion and property full of fascinating information about the history of the family. DESCRIPTION:We will be very fortunate to be holding our September Meeting at the beautiful home of Len Geiger in Vista.  Len and his family will be opening up their doors to their well known palms and tropicals landscaped property for us to have the perfect setting for our Sept meeting.  Another rare treat for our members to experience such a beautiful and well kept tropical oasis. \n \nFor those of you who have not been to Vista before it is a great town near many specialty nurseries that sell palms\, plumeria and many other tropical plants.  A great way to spend your day both with your hibiscus friends as well as hitting up some of the local nurseries in the area…and there are a lot of them! \n \nMore info to come….

SUMMARY:SCHS August 2016 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:The August 2016 Meeting will be held at Dr Ernest Curtis’ home in North Orange County.  This is a meeting not to be missed as there are over 200 hibiscus planted in ground along with a wide range of plumeria as well.  The last meeting held here August 2015 was legendary as all of Dr Curtis’ plants were in full bloom and it was a site many of us had never seen before. \n \nWe will be holding another fantastic plant auction at this meeting too – more really hard to get insane exotic hibiscus plants for your growing pleasures! \n   \n   \nMore info to come….

DESCRIPTION:The July 2016 meeting will be held at our president’s home in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles.  Come visit a one of a kind lush and colorful hibiscus garden packed into one tidy property.  A great opportunity to observe and learn the techniques used in not only growing a world class hibiscus garden but how to take it to the next level and make it the garden of your dreams. \n \n \n \n \nWe will also be holding our 1st hibiscus plant auction of 2016 at this meeting so some super hard to get and mature plants to get. Some really amazing plants are going to be auctioned off like Jason B\, Purple Heart and other very mature plants among others….

SUMMARY:SCHS June Meeting 2016
DESCRIPTION:Our June 2016 meeting is another fun and interesting destination as we will be holding our meeting at the flagship store for Southern California based Armstrong Garden Centers in Torrance.  We will be starting an hour earlier than usual at 9am as there will be a free class given by Armstrong Garden Experts on the topic of “Pollinators”.  Should be an informative and information packed one hour not to be outdone by our meeting that we will be holding after in our own reserved section of the nursery. \n \nThis will be a great time to be there as Armstrong will have a full compliment of all spring and summer plants available to browse and purchase after the meeting.  They also sell mature hibiscus and exotic hibiscus plants so some great things to check out while there. \n \nThe Armstrong class starts at 9am sharp and we will hold our meeting after giving everyone a chance to take a break and walk around for a short bit.  There are a lot of great restaurants next door so we will head to one after the meeting for those that would like to continue the day. \n \nMore info to come!

Come join us for another great time with your fellow admirers of greenery and gorgeous sights that please the senses. This meeting will be on a Sunday instead of the usual Saturday due to the garden not being open on Saturdays. \nThere will be a guided tour and fish feeding as well. Tour starts promptly at noon so please be there ahead of time. Tour fee is $3. More info to come on parking and restaurant for lunch afterwards.
