SUMMARY:April 2024 Meeting - Long Beach VA Therapy Gardens
DESCRIPTION:PLEASE CLICK ON THE HEADER LINE OF THIS EVENT TO SEE THE FULL INFO \nWe are delighted to announce that we will be having our 1st meeting of 2024 to kick off spring at the colorful and expansive Long Beach Veterans Therapy Gardens. Due to the generosity and dedication of Alex Franco “Plumeria Papa” we are able to conduct an exciting event that is well worth your time to attend. As usual we will have guided tours of the gardens which should be in full bloom and a sight to see for any flower fans. Also the bird tour was a big hit last year so if you like bird watching this is a great venue to get your fill. Then we will have a fantastic live demo by Alex on how to root hibiscus cuttings using multiple types of rooting media. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn first hand from someone that has mastered this process using different methods and obtaining success in multiple ways. This will be the first of two clinics about rooting hibiscus cuttings and the next one Alex will supply attendees with cuttings so they can root their own hibiscus for free and be on the way to growing their own new plant!\n \nWe will be providing chilled water for the meeting and there is a restroom facility on site. We will have a couple dozen chairs and shaded canopies but we recommend to bring your own chair and whatever else makes you comfortable. We hope to see you there and please invite any family or friends you think would be interested. \n \nPlease see the map below to navigate to the VA Gardens. It is located just east of the water tower. Enter the VA property off of Bellfower Blvd at Medal of Honor Blvd. Head east on Medal of Honor Blvd all the way until it ends at Parking Lot G. Go left into the parking lot and park there. The Therapy Gardens are located at the bottom end of the parking lot on the other side of the road by the water towers. SUMMARY:SCHS September 2022 Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Hello Hibiscus Friends\,\n \nOur next meeting for this year will take place on Saturday September 24th at Colorlicious Hibiscus Gardens in Hollywood. For those of you who have not been there before it is a small residential property in historic Larchmont Village that has over 300 exotic hibiscus planted in ground. This is a great chance to see how to maximize growing space and other challenges that come with space constraints while creating a beautiful landscaping outcome.\n \nWe will be holding the meeting outdoors only and will provide iced water and about 20 chairs. Please bring whatever you will need to be comfortable. There are public restrooms within a 1 minute drive on Larchmont Blvd which is the street behind the property. DESCRIPTION:Our November Meeting will be held at the world famous gem The Sherman Library. It is hard to find a more meticulously well taken care of establishment that has something to enjoy and delight the senses at every turn. We have held several past meetings here and it is always a fun flora filled experience with our expert plant members who are better than any docent led tour! \n \nSo come join us and burn off all those Thanksgiving calories in a most fun way with your hibiscus friends. Plus another expert hibiscus growing and care forum to help you achieve maximum results especially now that we are heading towards winter. \n \nAnd bring your blooms! This time of year we get some of our prettiest colors. DESCRIPTION:  \nWe hope you will join us for a colorful delight that will satisfy your senses and leave you greatly inspired. Our September meeting will be at Colorlicious Hibiscus Gardens\, the home of our Hibiscus Society’s President Darren Eminian. Located in quaint Larchmont Village\, just south of Hollywood\, the garden is packed with over 200 exotic hibiscus plants ranging from seedlings to mature specimens. There is something exciting and worth exploring at every turn. Like all of our meetings\, this will be an excellent opportunity to recieve expert tips. Also\, this meeting a must for anyone who is interested in using drip irrigation to feed their hibiscus to help them thrive year round. Of course we will be holding another highly anticipated world-class hibiscus drawing and auction to help you build your own vast garden filled with exotic hibiscus. Many varieties are very difficult to find or purchase.\n  \nLunch and drinks will be provided and all family and friends are welcome!
